Mark Myers To Be New CMIA President

MarkMyers CMIA President

On February 3rd, 2019, Mark E. Myers was elected President of the Clan Maclean International Association (CMIA) by his peers of world-wide association presidents. He replaced Reverend Abbot Patrick Maclean of Colorado who recently resigned his term.

The Clan Maclean International Association is the ‘umbrella’ organization for the Clan Maclean world-wide. It is the forum in which the Presidents of the regional Associations and MacleanNet exchange views about the operation and development of Associations generally. It seeks to encourage co-operation between these Associations as well as the formation of new Associations. It shares with these Associations the task of promoting the Clan and its heritage, for today and for future generations.

Mark has been President of the Clan Maclean Association of California and Nevada for the past six years. Prior to becoming President, he shared Secretary duties with his wife, Teresa. They have been members of the association since 1996 and have been the tent conveners in Northern California with the help of their two sons, Michael and Matthew, for the past 15 years.

Mark has instrumental in bringing the California association into the 21st century. In many cases, he was responsible for increasing the Maclean presence at highland games across the state of California and into Reno, NV. He established an internet web store presence allowing sales of branded merchandise to members from across the country. He introduced the use of an online credit card processing tool to allow members to pay for merchandise or memberships via credit card. These changes allowed the California association to become more profitable with memberships and in their fundraising. Enough so, that they were able to sponsor a visit from the Chief, Sir Lachlan to California in 2015. Mark has been instrumental in leading the US based efforts for the Duart Castle restoration appeal by finding a way to utilize the non-profit status of the California Association as the means to accept tax-deductible donations from across the country on behalf of the appeal. Efforts have been very successful to date with over $200,000 from US donors being transferred to Scotland.

The Chief, Sir Lachlan is the honorary President of the International Clan, and is “delighted” that Mark has accepted the role of CMIA President and had this to say in a recent letter to Mark, “The Clan Associations only work because of the time and effort that people like you put into them. I am very pleased that you are able to take it on and if there is anything I can do to help, please just ask.” Mark’s term as President will last until the next International gathering on Mull in 2022.

Mark is a United States Navy veteran and a first-generation born in the USA Maclean. His mother Margaret McLean was born in East Kilbride, Scotland. He resides in Livermore, CA USA with his family.
